The concept was to create a paradoy of a small desert roadside stop, with the teepee motel, adobe gas station, boarded general store, and 50's cafe. The actual time of day was not decided on until the modeling was done. Pre-dawn helps to explains the lack of people or cars since everyone is home sleeping.
Every project teaches you something. Lots of nurbs modeling here - in fact, there is only one polygon in the scene. Additionally, as the scene is too large to work with on my machine (392mb memory), I broke it out into reference files whiched worked well.
I checked this picture on several systems and found that my monitor is exceptionally dark, and thus my graphics tend to come out very light on other systems. Here, I've darken the image in Photoshop to compensate.
